In honor of Carlton Appelo’s lifelong love of history, the Wahkiakum Community Foundation partnered with Mr. Appelo in 2005 to establish the Appelo Archive Center.

Located above the Comet Cafe at 1056 SR-4 in Naselle, the Center contains more than 6,000 photos, as well as books, articles, family histories, oral histories, and other materials. The photos depict pioneer families and early logging, farming, and fishing scenes. Many of the items were accumulated by Mr. Appelo, whose family owned general stores in Deep River, Gray’s River, and Naselle.
